Benefits Of Shea Butter

SHEA BUTTER BENEFITS

Shea butter has a number of benefits for both skin and hair that you can introduce into your everyday routine. Our Shea range is enriched with sustainably sourced Community Trade Shea Butter from Ghana, and has been since 1994. Intensely nourishing, Shea Butter is perfect for dry skin but can also help replenish dry hair too. Explore all of the benefits of Shea Butter including a 6-step Shea Butter routine for nourished skin and hair from Vanda Serrador, Facial & Body Care Expert for The Body Shop.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SHEA BUTTER?

The intensely nourishing properties of shea butter lie in its rich texture and high fat content. This is why Ghanaian women have used shea butter to nourish and protect their face, body, hair and lips from dry Saharan winds for generations. Our founder, Dame Anita Roddick, discovered the beauty secrets of shea butter when she first visited Ghana in 1992 and met the inspirational women who treasure it. These are the experts who put the she in every shea.

WHERE DOES OUR COMMUNITY TRADE SHEA BUTTER COME FROM?

We’ve sustainably sourced our Community Trade shea butter from the Tungteiya Women’s Association in northern Ghana since 1994. 640 women from 11 villages handcraft 390 tons of shea butter for us every year using an 18-stage process passed from mother to daughter for generations. Each woman takes two days to expertly produce our shea in 25kg batches using traditional techniques to ensure the highest quality.

As well as paying a fair price, we pay a premium to help empower these women and help them to achieve an independent income, increased confidence and respect. This premium also helps fund community projects that positively impact the lives of 49,000 people across 11 villages every year. These community projects include building 7 schools that educate 1,200 students and enabling access for the community to safe water and health centres.

INTENSELY NOURISHING SHEA ROUTINE

Richly replenish dry hair and intensely nourish dry skin with this 6-step routine from Vanda Serrador, Facial & Body Care Expert for The Body Shop.

HAIRCARE

STEP 1: SHAMPOO

For very thin and dry hair, gently cleanse once or twice a week with Shea Butter Richly Replenishing Shampoo. For normal hair, apply as often as you like. Don’t worry – your hair won’t feel stripped of moisture.

STEP 2: CONDITION

Rinse and apply the Shea Richly Replenishing Conditioner from the scalp to the ends of the hair. Pay extra attention to split ends or hair damaged by colourants. It also helps detangle hair and makes it easier to comb, especially if it’s curly or wavy.

STEP 3: HAIR MASK

Apply the Shea Butter Richly Replenishing Hair Mask on wet or dry hair, gently massaging from the scalp to the ends. This intensely nourishing treatment will help protect hair from harsh, cold weather that causes loss of moisture and dryness. Leave it in for 5-10 minutes and rinse off. For best results, apply 2-4 times weekly. For damaged hair, apply to tips daily.

BODYCARE

STEP 4: EXFOLIATE

Gently buff wet skin with the Shea Exfoliating Sugar Body Scrub. Massage on dry areas like knees, elbows and heels in a circular motion before rinsing. This will help remove dead skin cells and unclog pores. It also improves and refines the skin’s texture and evens your skin’s tone.

STEP 5: CLEANSE

Next, lather up with the richly textured, gently cleansing Shea Shower Cream to help remove any residual impurities. You can also use Shea Soap to gently cleanse skin in the bath or shower.

STEP 6: MOISTURISE

Finally, towel dry and apply the moisturiser of your choice, depending on your favourite texture. The new, multi-purpose Shea Butter has an intensely rich, creamy texture that melts into body, face, hair, lips and feet. For lightweight hydration, apply Shea Butter Lotion. For a thicker texture, moisturise with Shea Nourishing Body Butter. Apply Shea Hand Cream daily, massaging a generous amount into your cuticles. Whenever your lips feel dry, give them rich moisture and protection with Shea Lip Butter or new multi-purpose Shea Butter.
